Stop Asking AI the Wrong Questions — Here's How to Get Content That Converts

Let’s get one thing straight: AI won’t save your content strategy if you’re using it wrong.

I see it all the time — people asking ChatGPT or other tools things like:

"Give me 7 content ideas for a real estate account."

And yes, AI will give you something. But let’s be honest: it’ll be vague, generic, and completely disconnected from what your audience actually needs. It might be technically correct, but it won’t be:

  • Personal

  • Strategic

  • Effective

The truth? That content might as well be garbage. It won’t connect. It won’t convert. It won’t sound like you.

The Biggest Mistake People Make With AI

They ask general, context-less questions.

AI is powerful — but it’s not a mind reader. To get high-performing content, you have to treat AI like your assistant, not your strategist. You wouldn’t hire someone and say “Make me content,” without first explaining:

  • Who you are?

  • Who your audience is?

  • What tone you speak in?

  • What your audience actually wants?

What to Do Instead: Give Context

Instead of saying:

"Give me 10 hooks for growth."

Say:

"I help first-time home buyers navigate real estate. My audience is 28–40, mostly professionals. They’re overwhelmed by the buying process but crave confidence and clarity. Give me 5 hook variations using the format: 'Never do X before you check Y.'"

This is how you get content that sounds like you and actually hits the mark.

Sometimes, it takes me an hour to craft the right prompt that gives me what I need — but once it clicks, the content flows.

Know Your Own Data First

Before prompting AI, do the work:

  • Check your analytics: which posts got the most saves, shares, or replies?

  • Notice the formats that worked best: it’s not always Reels — sometimes it’s a carousels or tweet-style posts.

  • What do people DM or comment about? Use that language.

AI should help you build from that, not replace it.

Hooks Aren’t One-Size-Fits-All

You’ve probably seen experts say “Use these 10 hooks to go viral.”

Don’t just copy them — ADAPT them.

For example, take the hook format:

"Never do X before you check Y."

I might ask AI:

“Give me 5 examples of this format for the real estate niche.”

It might respond with:

  • Never buy a house if you’re not ready for these 3 things.

This hook works because it creates curiosity. People stop scrolling because they want to know what those 3 things are.

From here, I can take the content in two directions:

  1. Show 3 luxury benefits (space, privacy, pool) — flipping it into an aspirational message.

  2. Show 3 potential problems (pests, plumbing, paperwork) — then position my brand as the solution.

Add Storytelling + CTA

Once you’ve got the hook, layer in a short story or personal POV to make it feel real, then end with a clear CTA:

“Looking for your first home? We’ve got your back — every step of the way.”

Use Captions for SEO

Your caption matters more than ever. Instagram is a search engine now. Ask AI to:

  • Add relevant SEO keywords

  • Help with readability

  • Generate alt caption versions

Just don’t forget to humanize it before you hit post.

Turn One Prompt Into Five Content Types

Once your idea is solid, you can repurpose it into:

And even better — that prompt becomes a template you can reuse again and again.

The more you train AI, the better it gets at understanding your voice, your needs, and your niche.
